904L stainless steel is a super austenitic stainless steel. 904L, with the designation 00Cr20Ni25Mo4.5Cu, is known as UNS N08904, DIN 1.4539, and ASTM A240. It is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel with a low carbon content, featuring a high chromium and nickel content, as well as molybdenum and copper elements. 904L stainless steel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in dilute sulfuric acid. The addition of copper gives it strong acid resistance, especially against chloride intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, and it is less prone to corrosion spots and cracks.
The carbon content of the 904L ball valve is very low (0.020%), so during normal heat treatment and welding, no carbides will be precipitated. This eliminates the risk of intergranular corrosion that usually occurs after heat treatment and welding. Due to its high chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content, and the addition of copper, the 904L ball valve can be passivated even in reducing environments such as sulfuric acid and formic acid.
The 904L stainless steel three-piece welded ball valve is suitable for the following media: brackish water, seawater, sulfuric acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid, chloride solutions, hydroxide solutions, etc., all of which are corrosive media.
