The base resin used for the fiberglass ball valve is mostly modified phenolic resin, and the reinforcing fibers are generally short-cut fibers. Such fiberglass ball valves can only be used under the PN6 working condition, which greatly limits the application scope and prevents the full utilization of the excellent corrosion resistance of fiberglass. To meet the increasing valve usage demands in various industries and the needs of various harsh and demanding operating environments, it is necessary to improve the material and manufacturing process of the existing fiberglass valves, making them suitable for a higher pressure range. This paper first conducts experimental research on the mechanical properties of continuous glass fiber reinforced fiberglass materials. Based on the known performance parameters of fiberglass materials, the design key points of the fiberglass ball valve are derived.

The main base materials for manufacturing valves are epoxy and phenolic resins (including their modified varieties, such as polyvinyl butyral modified phenolic, xylene formaldehyde resin modified phenolic, epoxy phenolic, etc.). There is also a small amount of production of polyacrylate fiberglass valves and modified furan resin fiberglass valves. The glass fibers used as reinforcing materials also vary in form, but due to the molding process, they are mainly in the form of short-cut fiber reinforcement. The performance of short-glass-fiber-reinforced composite materials is not high. The working temperature upper limit of various fiberglass valves is generally 120-140°C, and the working pressure is 0.8-1.0 MPa. This working pressure range is only equivalent to the working pressure range of the low-pressure zone.
